Car rental prices in Italy

Hello,

I will be traveling to Italy next month and I will be staying in Siena for a couple of days and then I plan to rent a car and drive and visit towns along the way and stay the night near San Gimignano. Then the next day return the car in Orvieto.

However, when I called AAA they told me it would be close to $2,680 USD which doesnt sound right to me? How much is it really to rent a car in Italy? Also can anyone recommend where I can rent a car in Siena and any advice you have in terms of renting a car vs hiring a personal driver.

I appreciate all of your feedback! Grazie

Hertz has locations in Siena and Orvieto. If you can drive a stick, a 4 day rental for something like a Fiat 500 is about 100 to 120 EUR total. Sure there will be some extras. If you need an automatic, you need to send an inquiry to Hertz.

AAA would be the last place I'd go for knowledgeable European travel. But do stop in an get an International Drivers Permit.

No, that price is not right by a factor of 10, unless you wanted a large van. The only car rental return in Orvieto is with Hertz and you need to book directly with them. AAA might use the consolidator Auto Europe, as do many of us, but they no longer handle bookings for the Orvieto office of Hertz.
