Car rental - pick up in Madrid, drop off in Prague

Four of us are traveling to Europe for the month of October. We want to travel by car, picking up in Madrid and dropping off in Prague a month later. What company would give us the best rates, and allow us to drive in Czech Republic (which I understand is a problem sometimes)? Are there any other issues or fees I should be aware of?

Becky, I suspect you're going to have trouble with that plan. As you noted, many car rental firms prohibit vehicles travelling in some of the eastern European countries. Also (and perhaps more importantly) if you DO happen to find a rental firm that will allow this, the drop-off fees in a different country will probably be ASTRONOMICAL! In addition, the CDW (insurance) will probably be very high priced. *Note that for some of the countries you would be driving in or through, an International Driver's Permit would be required. This must be used in conjunction with your home D.L. and EACH driver must have an I.D.P. Finally, you didn't specify your age, but some rental firms won't allow drivers under 25-years of age. Using the trains would not only be faster, but less of a hassle. Perhaps someone here can suggest a way that you can do this, but I suspect it's going to be very difficult to accomplish what you're proposing. Good luck!

I suggest you call autoeurope.com at 1-888-223-5555. They are very helpful and reliable and they'll help you figure out the cost of your plan. And they DO allow travel in the Czech Republic.
