We are flying into Lisbon in October and spending a few days in the city, then renting a car for a couple of weeks to tour around and flying out of Porto. We noticed that there are car rentals places at Lisbon airport and the Oriente train station (essentially, we are trying to avoid getting a rental from downtown Lisbon). Which would be the most convenient (and least stressful) place to pick the car from? The airport or the train station? From Lisbon, we plan to drive to Coimbra (and visit other towns around there), before we start exploring the Douro Valley. Thank you in advance for any advice!

We pick up our rental car at the airport. It is easy as cutting pie to exit the airport. We went north toward Coimbra. A bit of traffic initially, then, it thinned out. Due note we took the metro to the airport and the local rental agency pick up was at the airport gas station. Also, if you give your remaining metro ticket to a young starving traveller do it after you exit to the airport metro. We did get out with a good samaritan.
