Car Rental -- Pick up & Drop Off

I plan to pick up a car at Frankfurt International AP on 9/7/2010, drive the 190 KM down to Rothenburg ob der Tauber, and drop the car off there the next day, and hook up with my architectural tour group. Staying in the old town at the MarcusTurm Hotel. Does anybody know of acare rental company at Frankfurt International AP that allows this? Thank you,

Michael from Laguna Niguel

I believe Europcar still has a 1 day minimum, but because Rothenburg o.d.t. is so small it's not a dropoff location.
On a positive note, I've stayed at the Markusturm and it's a very nice hotel in a good location.

Yes, I stayed there for 3 days back in 2003 and it was centrally-located for eveything within the walls. I did check Europecar and you are correct, no drop-off for Rothenburg. Rick's 3 week Germany itinerary suggests such a drop-off is still possible. Hopefully, someone else may know.

If you don't want the expense of a car rental - or you think the jet-lag may compromise your driving alertness - that trip from FRA to R'burg can be done by regional train for about 28 Euros, roughly what you will pay for gas alone. At FRA go to the Regionalbahnhof ticket machines and get a ticket to Kahl (7.15 Euros from FRA) and a Bayern ticket single (daypass for one person, 20 Euros) for Kahl to Rothenburg.

Thanks for the alternative. I understand you have switch to a local train before Rothenburg, but that's not a big deal. autoeurope.com wants a 3 day minimum anyway, and they are not cheap. A Mercedes A Class quote was $402.70 USD, plus drop fee. Ugh!

Michael, for what it's worth, I agree with Russ. If it is just a way to get to Rothenburg, take the train. I always drive a car when I'm in Germany but I think I would make an exception for the situation that you have described. We have stayed at the ReichsKuchenmeister Hotel, having driven there twice, and love its location.
Good luck with your decision.

Thank you. I am definitely leaning in that direction.

I rented from www.autoeurope.eu for the first time this past spring. I've previously rented from www.autoeurope.com with no problems. However, the .eu website gave me more locations from which to choose, an option for 0 Euro deductible AND a better price.

I was a little apprehensive, but it all worked out as planned.
