Car Rental in Malaga Spain

Has anyone used a car rental from the airport in Malaga and if so what companies would you recommend? Also, I know using a VISA card will elimimate the collision damage waiver, but what other insurance would be advisable to take. Some of the car rental sites are very confusing as to total costs. We haven't rented a car in Europe and want to make sure we have the correct insurance coverage. We will be there 11 days in Dec/Jan.

We boked with Malagacar.com for a 7 pax minivan the week of Christmas at 204.00 euro, pretty cheap to me. Also look at www.car-jet.com, they were almost as cheap.

Most car rental agencies should give you all the CDW and deductible for nothing, since the Malaga market is so competetive. Carjet.co.uk will include it all, for sure, so what you see as a final price will be all-inclusive. Its site is also good at explaining what is included and, more importantly, what is not.

Joanne, I just came back 2 weeks ago from Malaga and we rented from Sixt...I think that was the name. We rented a VW Polo and was quite roomy for 2 people. We always get the extra insurance...just to be safe. We had an accident a few years ago in Italy..and we were completely covered with the extra insurance. Don't count on your CC's to cover everything. Make sure you have your international drivers permit..they will ask for it. Also..when you rent..look around the whole car and take picutes of any scratches, missing hubcabs, etc. They tried to get us for a missing hubcap, but we had a picute of the missing cap as well as it was noted on the contract! The roads were quite easy to figure out. Our weather was good for our 11 day trip. Let me know where you are going if I can help in anyway!

Thanks everyone for your input on car rental. Originally I was going to book with MalagaCar so went with that company. I agree it is important to take pics and have full insurance coverage. We are staying at a holiday apt in Nerja for 11 days and plan to take day trips and maybe an overnight in Seville. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Must obtain International Drivers Permit from AAA ($20). Get caught without one and you are out minimum 200 Euros paid at spot of infraction. Not kidding, don't risk it!
Where do you desire to drive from Malaga? We used Malaga as a base for a week and did day trips throughout the region.
