Car rental in Italy, drop off in France

Is car rental better/faster/easier to pickup in Milan Malpensa or Florence airports? We are hoping to avoid a drop-off charge in Nice, so want to rent where the most travel occurs.

I don't understand your question. Are you asking if it is better to pick up in Milan or Florence? Is your question whether one of those locations makes it cheaper to drop in Nice? If so, call Autoeurope's 800 number and ask them. Drop charges are highly variable.

If you're arriving in Milan pick up the car there, drive around Italy drop the car in San Remo (located nw of Genoa) and train into Nice. Please be aware you will need an international drivers license avail.at AAA offices $15.00 Do not drive into Florence. Lots of ZTL zones, very high tickets. Park outside the city or at the airport and train in. If going to Rome, the same applies. Rome traffic is a

It probably doesn't matter. Just as an example - Hertz's fee for a dropoff in Nice (from Italy) is 205 euros regardless of whether you picked the car up in Milan or in Florence. You can't avoid a dropoff fee if you return the car in a different country.

Thanks for the advice. We will be travelling along the Mediterranean coast, so dropping off the car in Ventimiglia would work. I will definitely call Auto Europe first.

Your question is confusing. It doesn't matter where you pick up your car in Italy, it's where you drop it off that matters... dropping off in Nice will incur a hefty charge, because it is another country, period. To avoid a hefty drop-off charge, drop the car off in San Remo, then take a quick train just over the border to Nice.
