We are arriving in Hamburg via train in a few days and wish to rent a car. We are arriving at the Hamburg Hauptbahnoff station and hope to find a Hertz car rental place nearby. Any suggestions? Thank you.
I did a simple Google search using "Hertz Hamburg station" as the search and came up with this: http://www.hertz.co.uk/rentacar/car-hire/germany/hamburg/hamc61 which shows Hamburg - Opposite Main Railway Station Kirchenallee 34-36 , Hamburg, 20099 Germany Phone : 040 2801201-3 Fax : 040 245378
Location Type : Corporate Hours of Operation : Mo-Fr 0700-1930, Sa 0800-1200, Su 1000-1400. Will that do?
I think so. I don't know the layout of the city nor the train station. Apparently this is the main station in the middle of Hamburg. Thank you for the information!

Steve My guess from your answer and original question is that you may not be completely at home with German or with German expressions. If so, a very brief primer. A "Bahnhof" is a center for the Bahn, in other words, a station. A small town will have a Bahnhof, abbrevieated Bf or Bhf. The prefix "Haupt" translates as high or main. So a larger town which has several stations will have several Bahnhofs and one Hauptbahnhof, abbreviated Hbf. If you are going to a larger city like Koeln, Muenchen, Frankfurt, Hamburg, etc., you will generally go to the Hauptbahnhof. Most larger Hbf will have a taxi rank, hire cars, a newsagent, one or more places for a snack or a meal, and many have supermarkets, pharmacies, post offices, etc. If you click on http://www.nshispeed.nl/en/stations/station-maps-floor-plan#station_maps_germany (link won't work in this editor) and then on the icon for the PDF of Hamburg station you can get an idea of the whole station layout. Gute Fahrt.
The trains stop at various stations in Hamburg....Dammtor, Altona, Harburg. Hamburg Hauptbahnhof is the main or central station where the both ICE and regional trains stop. You can access the Hertz rental car place located on Kirchenallee, as suggested above, from Hauptbahnhof. Kirchenallee is an exit for leaving the station after you go up the stairs from the train platform. You'll see the exit sign for Kirchenalle, where several 2 and 3 star hotels are located.
