I'll be traveling to Central Europe this spring. My friend and I are planning on primarily using public transport, but I suspect there may be times where a rental car would be helpful, mainly to explore the islands (we're considering a few days in Mljet and Korcula). However, neither of us can drive manual transmission, which seem to be waaay more prevalent in Europe. We could get an automatic from a city and take a car ferry, but it gets expensive and we wouldn't really need it the whole time. We'd really rather just rent a car for a day once we're on the island, but I'm afraid the little car companies on the islands won't have automatics. Has anyone noticed if they do or have any experience with this?
