I am thinking of renting a car in Slovenia and dropping it off in Croatia. Has anyone done this....dropped off a rental in a second country? And is it very expensive? Any, one, company better than another fo this type of transaction??
It's a fairly well talked about subject that dropping a rental car in a different country results in enormous drop charges...into the hundreds of euros.
Make a dummy run on the same site with the same dates, but with two different countries - - see if the costs suits you.
I'll be renting in Slovenia and dropping off in Germany the quote for the one-way drop-off charge is 350 euros! I checked drop-off in Austria, but it was not any cheaper. I've been looking at Hertz and Auto Europe. I think the drop-off charge is the same with both groups.
Also try Sixt - it's a well-reputed German-based car rental co in Europe, which has lots of branches in Croatia and Slovenia. We liked the no-hassle service with them. We picked up the car in Split. After Slovenia, we dropped it off in Opatija (back in Croatia). Then we took the train straight up to Vienna from there. It was easy and an overnight in Opatija was pleasant.
There's a page in Rick's Croatia/Slovenia book that addresses this exact question, because it's so often asked...the same info might be on the RS website as well.
