We would like to rent a car in Vienna and drop it in Dresden. Sixt seems to have the best rental rate. Has anyone used Sixt Auto Rental? Or what is anyone's experience with auto rentals in Austria and Germany?

Our Sixt one-way rental was flawless this past summer. A round trip route was not possible and the drop off charge ($200 USD) was reasonable considering that the vehicle was rented in Vienna and dropped of in Dubrovnik (19 days and 3000km journey). This was our third rental in Germany & Austria; I've often have used Auto Europe but they could not accomodate Vienna to DUB; Priceline saved us quite a bit versus the main Sixt site.

Have you checked to see how much extra you will pay to rent a car in one country and return in a different one? It is usually a pretty hefty charge, possibly hundreds of euros. I always use Auto Europe for car rentals.

Andrea and Craig, thank you for your comments. This time our itinerary doesn't allow us to do a round trip, so we'll have to pay the extra drop charges. We have used AutoEurope before also, but this time its quote was much higher than either Sixt or Gemut. Glad to hear the good report on Sixt, Craig.
