Can we rent a car in Naples and return it in Rome?

Not sure if this will help but just made a reservtion with Thirfty car rental to pick up at the Rome train station and drop off at the Naples airport, they do charge an extra fee for this I think it was around $60

If you rent with the major companies this is a straight forward process. The cost will be between USD50.00 to USD100.00.

Karen, we avoided the drop charge (and saved additional money) by booking through Costco. We started out checking AutoEurope and EuropeCar, etc., but, to my surprise, going through Costco beat their prices significantly every time. We selected Avis and picked up a car in Versailles and dropped in Nice. I haven't driven in Italy yet, so don't know if the price differences would be the same there, but it's worth a try.

There shouldn't be a drop charge in the same country. If you do find a cheaper rate at Costco, call Autoeurope's 800 number and ask them to beat the rate. But I have nothing against Costco. I assume they would rent you a really big car ;).
