We are planning to rent a car from Rome airport in November, to visit family in L'Aquila area for the first 2 days. Then we plan to drive to Siena and Pisa the next 3 days. The last 2 days, we will be touring Rome. Should we return the car and stay in Rome city center and take a taxi on Sunday morning or keep the car, stay at EUR area and return the car Sunday morning? Our flight leaves at 7:45 am on Sunday. We do not know if the car rental at Rome airport is open before 6 am to check out the car.
Also, has anyone rented a car with a navigator system?
I am wondering if the navigator will comminicate in English.
When we had an early morning flight out of Rome, we turned the Avis rental car in at the airport the night before, stayed overnight at an airport hotel, and took a cab to the airport for our morning flight. This is not the only way to handle the situation, of course, but it worked for us.
Most car rental websites will tell you the hours of the rental facility you select as your point of return.
There have been posts on the Helpline indicating that some GPS/navigator systems did not an English option, and I'm not sure how you would be able to determine that in advance.
Re keeping the car at your EUR hotel, the challenge of driving, as well as overnight parking, in the Rome metro area (even as far south as EUR) should not be under-estimated.
Thanks for the info, we will return the car before we go to Rome, then take a taxis from Rome to the airport.
