Planning a trip to France and Italy in 2023. Our ideal is to drive the countryside as we have done in the past, but I have a question regarding renting a car. We will be 71 and 72 years of age. Will our age be an issue in securing a car rental? We have rented cars before with Hertz in Both those countries but back in 2017 and 2019?

It depends. Some companies cap the age limit at 70; some at age 75. Some charge a surcharge if you are over 70 but still allow you to rent (like AutoEurope). Or there are companies like Sixt, which has no age limits and no surcharges in most cases according to their website.
Your best bet is to check with the individual companies.

Exactly. It depends on the car rental company whether they will rent to a driver over a certain age. It differs from company to company.
