car in Paris

What can I do with a car when staying in Paris? Where to park if hotel has no parking? What will it cost?

Overnight parking in Paris is expensive. It's the big city.

Some travelers plan their trip so that they return the rental car just before Paris, or pick it up just after Paris. These will be expensive.

You could park at the airport for less.

There are parking garages under Ecole Militaire, St. Sulpice Church, Les Invalides, the Bastille, and the Pantheon.

Do you really need/want a car at all? If yes, then consider dropping off the car as you arrive in Paris, and picking up another as you leave. That would be cheaper than paying for the car and paying to park it while you're in Paris (and less hassle, too).

Well then, Lynne, brace yourself for driving in Paris. No one on this site has ever recommended it, but if you feel it's unavoidable, then just accept that driving in Paris is not going to enhance the relaxation aspect of your vacation experience. Pick your least flusterable driver, get a GPS, and have at it.

Lynn, it will be $200 more to pick up another car, MINUS the cost of parking in Paris. Even if your Paris hotel has parking available, I doubt it will be no charge.

ok so I will ditch the car....airport or if i can rerent one on the way out of the city. Trouble is i am renting in Frankfurt then turning it in Paris and re-renting and taking it back to Frankfurt. The price is 1000 vs. 600 as far as I can tell...also does anyone know a hotel in Paris in October for less than $200 !!!! that is not infested with mold and fleas? HELP

1) You didn't mention the reason why you're renting a car to get from Frankfurt to Paris and then back to Frankfurt? sight-seeing on the way in places not on the rail lines? lots of people in your group thus car more economical than train? or what? (have you considered the option of taking the train)

2) Paris hotels: here's 200 discussions, on this site in the last year, on Paris hotels that have been reviewed here; a good many are less than the $200/night you mentioned

Lynne: It’s not really necessary for you to reply, but I am a bit curious as to your last comment regarding fleas and mold in Parisian hotels. I suppose any place can have bed bugs, but I haven’t read anything specific to a mold and/or flea problem in Paris. Here’s a good hotel recommendation…Hotel de la Tulipe in the 7th.

I don't think that there is mold or fleas in Paris hotels....but reading travelers reviews is horrendous...you would think every hotel is dumpy...so i just wanted to know, from someones personal experience what is a relatively clean, cheap hotel as I don't particularly want to believe such negative reviews
