Car/Driver from ROME FCO

Hello I'm wanting to hire a car and driver from Rome Airport to the place I am staying. I keep coming upon all other modes of transportation, being that I'm arriving at night I would feel more comfortable with someone meeting me and driving me, rather than possibly get scammed late at night by a false taxi driver. Does any one have any recommendations or links they can direct me to? Thank you so much

I booked a car with TransfersRome company.. The manager is named Massimiliano. He answers his emails right away and assured me that they even watch for if your flight is late and will be waiting for you.. HIs email is [email protected] HIs website is www.transfersrome.com He has been very attentive to my needs, so I think he will do you a good job.. It is 50 Euro to e any hotel in ROME. I've used several different agencies found off the web to get to my hotel in Rome from the airport when traveling with my sister. All were good but go with the recommendation above. They will keep track of your flight so no worries there about delays. Normally my husband and I take the train in and walk to our hotel because we've been there before and know just how to get to the hotel. Single woman unsure of where she's going...not a good plan. Besides you'll be beat (not ideal for making good judgement calls). The alternative is to take a taxi. If you wait in the official taxi line you will get a real taxi which by law has a fixed rate to any hotel in central Rome. Look for the official medallion on the door. Non airport licensed taxis can pick you up but the rate will be higher which explains the two rates posted on the sign at the taxi stand. Confirm the rate before getting in. Fake looking confident if you must:)

Try Romacabs. If you use the taxi queue at the airport the probability of being scammed by a false taxi driver is zero.

I second Romecabs. Absolutely reliable, good cars, English speaking drivers.

Third recommendation for Romecabs. I used them in May to transport 5 of us from the airport to the hotel and actually booked them for their VIP service which included a car tour of Rome. It worked very well for our group.

Thank you for all the replies- Regarding Romecabs, am I understanding correctly that I don't need to pre reserve, but that if I stand in the Taxi line I can find a Romecab that way? I arrive very late ( 9:00 pm) I am traveling alone, so want to make the best and safest choice. Thank you for your patience in helping me.

No, you have it wrong. Romecabs is a private hire company who will hold up a card in the terminal and take you to your destination for a fixed fee in a vehicle not a taxi. You have to arrange beforehand or they can't meet you. The taxi rank or taxi queue is the official place to get a taxi going to Rome. The cars all line up, the customers all line up, there is a guy or gal at the front matching parties to size of car. They have a fixed rate to anywhere in the Aurilian (spelling, Nigel!"! - hate iPhone spelling) Walls. There are official surchareges for time of night and extra luggage. They are easily identified as official taxis. Don't get with somebody who comes up to you and says "Taxi, meester?". They are illegal and unsafe.

Nigel,
Thank you for the clarification. I think I will be going with Romecabs, since I have not heard back from transfersRome company. I'll relook at the posts on this page to see if there is a link for Romecabs. My fear is I'm going to google the wrong information and not get with a reputable company. I will be flying in late at night, and WILL be tired. I just want to feel secure that I have this portion of my trip secure, and safe! Thanks so much for letting me know that a reservation is needed.

But, I would have no reservation about walking out to the taxi queue and taking an official taxi. The rate is fixed and explained up front. The day time rate is 48E but the night rate is higher. And that solves the problem of finding your driver if one of you happens to be late. The site is Romecabs.com
