Capri Funicular tickets

I will be stopping in Naples (cruise port) for the day and want to head over to Capri on my own. Is it possible to buy tickets for the Capri funicular in Naples before I head over to Capri? I've heard some tobacconist shops may sell them, but have not found any information online to support that. Just trying to save time, if possible. If I can buy tickets before heading over to Capri, where are the shops in relation to the cruise port?

Hi Nancy,
We took the cruise on our own from Sorrento and just bought the tickets when we got there. We didn't encounter any lines but we went in April. I don't know if it gets very crowded during the time you're planning to visit. Every minute spent in Capri is not a waisted minute, it is absolutely MARVELOUS. Good Luck & Enjoy your trip!

Thanks Betty!
I will be there in a couple of weeks, so I hope it is not too crowded.

nancy, When you arrive at Marina Grande, walk a short distance on the road leading uphill, with the Funicular and hill on your left. When you reach the entrance to the Funicular, look towards the right side and you'll see the ticket office. Depending on the time of day and time of year, there may be a queue at both the ticket office and entrance to the Funicular, however they usually move fairly quickly. For the trip back to the dock on the Funicular, your biggest problem may not be getting a ticket. At the end of the day, there's often a HUGE queue to get back to the dock for the last boat of the day. I'd suggest either leave early to get down the hill OR allow a bit extra in your budget to use one of the open-top Taxi's. It's a beautiful ride in the sunshine, and absolutely a more pleasant experience than the "sardine ride" in the Funicular. Be sure to research the boat departure times, so that you're not late getting back to Naples. It wouldn't be too pleasant to arrive back in time to see your ship sailing off into the distance! Happy travels!
