Can you please review my itinerary and/or give me transportation tips?

My friend and I are going to Europe for 13 days and we had the following itinerary in mind. Please let me know what you think. I know it might seem a bit rushed but we would love to squeeze this all in. Also Euro Rail seems a touch expensive but I am wondering if it is our best bet. There does not seem to be a Euro Rail that departs out of Amsterdam so do we need to fly to our next destination?

Regarding our limited time in Amsterdam, I have been before and my friend agreed that we would only spend one day there. The reason we are flying in there is that this was a free flight and there was no availability to other cities.

Any help or guidance whatsoever is much appreciated!

Day 1 - Amsterdam

2, 3 - Berlin

4, 5, 6 - Prague

7, 8 - Munich

9, 10 - Interlaken

11, 12, 13 - Paris

Thanks!

Sounds like you will spend 5 of the 13 days on the train. Yikes!

Good lord, don't attempt this schedule. You'll experience nothing but trains. If your day in Amsterdam is the day you arrive, you have an evening in Amsterdam. Then a day on the train and an evening in Berlin. And so on and so on...

Thanks a lot for your input everyone! Regarding the travel time I understand what you are saying but we thought it to be manageable considering we hoped to take overnight trains and/or sleep on the train. From my research each train is between 4.5 to 6.5 hours which doesn't seem too bad.

By all means though I am fine with cutting out a stop or two. Paris and Interlaken are my must-sees and my friend's priorities are in Germany I believe. Perhaps we eliminate a German city and/or Prague? Ideally I would love to keep it all though. Anyone have any input?

I plan to travel every other day and only spend three hours in a car or train on travel days.

Your travel days include packing, checking out, eating, getting to the station, finding your train, making sure you get the right stop, finding transportation to your lodging, checking in, unpacking, eating. Even a three hour trip becomes a full day.

Using my rule of thumb, I map out a route and see how far I can get in my available time.

Berlin and Prague are the obvious choices to take out. They add a lot of travel time to your itinerary. I would probably make Munich/Salzburg the farthest Eastern point of your trip. Stop in Koln/Bonn, spend some time on the Mosel and/or Rhine or, alternatively, make some Romantic Road stops on the way to Munich.

Don't do it. The majority opinion seems to be that its very hard to get a decent amount of sleep on a night train... to which I concur. On a long trip, an occasional night train may save you some time, but on a short trip like this, you'll end up seeing less of your destinations because you'll be too exhausted. You also haven't figured in recovering from jet lag either, so you'll leave Amsterdam tired, and you'll arrive in Berlin not wanting to do anything but sleep.
