Can’t Check-in online

We leave in less than 24 hours via Delta. I went to check in and it let me put all my passport info fir all the family. Then it say, advisory you can’t check in or something like that.

We think that because it’s international we have to do it at the airport, correct? My husband said when he went to Costa Rica last year the same thing happened.

I wasn't able to check-in online either for my trip in April. I really wanted to, but stuck in the line even with just carry-on.

Whew! Thank you both for answering so quickly. We will just go earlier than anticipated to the airport tomorrow. I’ll feel better getting it done early and go have some breakfast. I’d rather sit and wait there than at home.

Airline may want to physically inspect your passport(s) before issuing boarding passes.

You should have been able to enter passport information (and Known Traveler Number if you have one) when you ticket.

Sometimes the airline balks at the 24-hour check-in rule until your connecting flight falls into that same window, taking into account the time difference. Try later and see if it works.

In our experience, the airlines need to see your passport before issuing a boarding pass.
Safe travels!

Lulu good plan. We just went early to avoid issues and ate at the airport. I'd rather be too early then feel stressed watching the time.

Thats always been our experience with Delta. They want to physically see you have your passport with you. Sometimes, we've noticed the gate agents calling some passengers by name in the waiting area, asking to see their passports.

All the comments about the airline needing to see your passports are correct. US does not have exit immigration like many European and other countries so the airlines have the responsibility of insuring that you have a valid passport. Pretty standard.

At the very least, you should be able to check-in and scan your passport at a Delta Kiosk, and avoid lengthy line-ups at an attended counter - shouldn't you?

For the last number of years I've been flying upgraded seating, with dedicated check-in counters, so I haven't much worried about the whole terminal thing.

The Indianapolis airport is a piece of cake. No long lines, even in economy with no pre-check. They are even courteous there. Delta just wants to see your passport. Bon voyage and have fun.

Count me in with the ridiculously early airport crowd. We always go an hour or two earlier than is probably needed, and then sit there eating and bored, but not panicked. Yesterday I spent close to 4 hours as DFW on a domestic layover and in that time our gate changed 4 times!

Looking forward to hearing about your adventure, Lulu!

You’re on your way now but I will add that when I left the US for Paris on April 11 I was able to check in online with Delta and yes…got boarding passes for both the domestic leg to Seattle and the SEA to CDG flight. Was able to load them onto my phone. When I did the bag drop she did check my passport, CDC card and that I had done the France PLF form.

I was completely shocked I was able to get boarding passes.

Today I just tried to check in online from Amsterdam for a return flight home and was unable to complete. I was planning to get to the airport early anyway since they have been having issues.

I had the same issue with our flight back to the U.S. from Stockholm. It was a two-leg trip, Stockholm-LAX and LAX-SEA, and while I could check in for the first leg, it told me online checkin was not possible for the second leg. Turned out I got the dreaded SSSS designation for the first leg, so they wouldn't let me get boarding passes for the second leg until after the screening.
