Can our September Travel plans work

We have booked a Mediterranean Cruise leaving from Rome Italy September 18th. There are 4 of us. We plan to fly into Paris France arriving the morning of Sept.11th. Overnight flight from USA. While there we will use the Hop on Hop off Double decker bus to do our sight seeing and end with an evening river cruise.

We want to leave Sunday Sept, 13th for Lake Lucerne, trip up Mt. Polite and a short scenic train ride.

On the 14th an Overnight sleeper train to Venice Italy for a short sight seeing tour and a gondola ride.

The 16th travel to Rome to see a few sights before boarding the ship afternoon of the 18th.

This is our second trip to Europe. But it has been some time ago.

Is this fast track trip doable? What are the best trains to use?

Can we have luggage shipped from home to the cruise ship?

Any additional tips and suggestions will be appreciated.

Hi Kathy,
That's a lot of distance to cover! Here's a link so that you can check travel times:

Would you consider skipping Lake Lucerne (and maybe even Venice) and adding more time to Paris and Rome?

My first reaction is that since you asked, you probably know it is marginal. I always think these types of question are asking for confirmation. Ya, you can do it. Would I do it, NEVER. That is a lot of effort to get to Venice for a short sight seeing tour and a gondola ride. And Venice deserve better. I would save it for the next trip. And, as someone else suggested, add days in Rome or Paris or stop in Florence. Most what you are going to see is the inside of trains and train stations. Relax some

Obviously you want the faster trains.

Yes, you can ship luggage to a cruise ship but it is expensive. However, you may want to rethink your packing. When we cruise in Europe for four of us we only add one, carry on size rolling bag in addition to the carry on size bag that each person has for regular travel.

Good luck
