Can I get from Gimmelwald to Interlaken before 10am?

Hi all. On my upcoming euro-trip I'm planning on staying 2 nights in Gimmelwald, Switzerland before proceeding to Kitzbuhel, Austria. I have a train ticket for a 10:04am train out of Interlaken on the morning of Thurs July 19. I need to know if I can get from Gimmelwald to Interlaken to make this train (and how to do so). I would appreciate any suggestions! Thanks so much!

Sure. The cable car-bus-train transfer from Gimmelwald to Interlaken starts at 6:00 and departs ever 30 minutes thereafter (6:30, 7:00 etc.). It takes 54 minutes. You could leave on the 9:00 and get there in plenty of time for a 10:04 train (10 minutes transfer time is plenty). If you are uncomfortable with that you could leave Gimmelwald on the 8:30.

Ditto Sasha. Just note that will need to take the bus from Stechelberg at the bottom of the gondola from Gimmelwald to the Lauterbrunnen train station. The bus will be waiting for you as you get off the gondola. The travel time for this bus is included in the times mentioned by Sasha above.

The fare from Stechelberg to Interlaken Ost is 11.40 CHF. SBB does not show the fare on the cablecar from Gimmelwald down to Stechelberg. You can check the Schilthorn website for that (www.schilthorn.ch) Your eurail pass will cover only 25% of the total. (Better coverage starts at Interlaken).

From Interlaken Ost into the Lauterbrunnen Valley, you will be on either the Jungfraubahn or the Schilthornbahn. These are private railways within the Swiss train system. They are not kind to the Eurail pass. As Sasha has noted, you get a 25% discount on all fares while on either of these two systems. Also, your pass will not be good on the bus. The bus driver likes the Swiss Francs. He or she has change onboard. At least he did for us. We had a Swiss 1/2 fare card.

I've been reading the sites and can't seem to figure out - Is it possible to buy tickets for the cable car ride up the Schilthorn to the Piz Gloria when I am already in Gimmelwald? Or must I get a ticket in Lauterbrunnen? Ideally I'd like to be able to wake up in Gimmelwald, check the weather and decide if I'll head up for the breakfast buffet.

You can purchase ticket up to the Schiltorn at any train station in Switzerland, and the cable car station in Gimmelwald.
