I see that train tickets are sold by Eurorail and the Hungarian train website for double the price of buying them from the Czech train website. Does anyone know why? Any reason I should NOT buy from the Czech website directly? Budapest to Prague direct day train in June 2023 for reference.
We have no idea why the Czech Railways site is cheaper but we have used the Czech site to book trains on two trips and not had any issues. We have travelled Dresden-Prague, Prague-Vienna, Olomouc-Budapest, and Budapest-Prague. All booked using cd.cz
I am not seeing that. I used random day June 8, second class, and found the prices to be the same on the Czech site https://www.cd.cz/en and the Hungarian site https://jegy.mav.hu/.
I didn’t check Eurorail because I prefer to book direct.
We found different pricing when we took a catamaran from Vienna to Bratislava. For the price of one fare on the Austrian boat we got 4 fares on the Slovakian one. Was the Austrian boat fancier, maybe, but we had a lovely ride on the same Danube River for 1/4 the price.
I just buy train tickets in person at the station. Last time I tried to buy tickets to Prague, I couldn't get them to pull up online.
It's a 7 hour train ride. Last time we went, we stopped in Bratislava for a couple of days. And the trains were pretty substandard in quality--hot too.
Ryanair flies between Budapest and Prague cheap--in an hour. It's the preferable way to travel unless you're going to stop in Bratislava and/or Vienna along the way.
Thank you all the good advise. I was able to purchase the tickets today through the Czech website, and I was very pleased with the process and result. Have a wonderful day!
