buying train tickets at Stuttgart Airport...

I have looked on this forum, as well as others, and watched youtube videos and either my brain is just overloaded from the excitement of leaving for my first European trip on Sunday or I am just not finding what I want. Since everyone on this forum has provided me with a plethora of wonderful and helpful information, I figured one more question for "ya all" couldn't hurt!!

We are flying into Stuttgart and want to take the train to Ehrwald, Austria. We have decided to take the ICE train to Munich, which is as far as the ICE train will take us, if I am correct. In watching the youtube videos on how to use the ticket machines at the airport, I haven't seen anything on ICE trains. Will it give us the option of choosing the ICE train when the machine generates our train information? We will not have to buy another ticket once we are in Munich, will we? The machine should generate the ticket for our entire journey, correct?

Thanks for the help!

Just to be clear you do know that you have to first take the S-Bahn from the airport to main train station (Hauptbahnhof) in Stuttgart.
Then from there yes the machine will sell you a ticket (generate the ticket for our entire journey) all the way to Ehrwald.
Looking at the DB schedule Stuttgart to Munich is only by IC (intercity) train.

There are ICE, IC, and EC trains from Stuttgart to Munich. Looks like the ICE runs at least hourly. The best connections, as shown on the Bahn website, are by ICE to Munich Pasing, a ca. 20 minute change there, and a regional train to Ehrwald via Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

Stuttgart airport has an S-Bahn station, and the S-Bahn is a train of the Bahn, so there should be a full Bahn ticket automat in the airport station, from which you can buy a full array of tickets.

The trip takes 4¼ hours. You can purchase a full fare (flexipreis) ticket for Stuttgart Flughafen (STR) to Ehrwald online for 82€/P and save time at the airport. A full fare ticket will be valid on any trains, all day long.

In 2002 I flew into Stuttgart airport and took the S-Bahn to the Hbf and regional trains to Rothenburg. I think I bought the tickets for the entire trip at the airport.

Just because it's an ICE doesn't mean it isn't a train. Just look up, and buy tickets for, a trip from Stuttgart Flughafen/Messe (the name of the station at Stuttgart airport) to Ehrwald.
You just buy one ticket from A to B, which includes all the required trains, whether they are S-Bahn, ICE, or anything else.
