Buying Discounted Italian Rail Tickets in the U.S.

BootsnAll is now claiming they will sell discounted Italian rail tickets, with the same discounts found on the Trenitalia site, to customers in the U.S. http://bit.ly/hPUbUQ Any of our rail experts want to try it out?

I tried a hypothetical 23 May, Venice to Rome purchase and found that the Bootsnall ticket was US$5.50 more than RailEurope. Then tried Trenitalia with a Monday, 28 March (since I would be purchasing in Venice just a few days prior to this hypothetical trip) which turned out to be US$4.00 more than RailEurope!
Hmmmmmmmm, seems to me if a person were an "over-planner" (like some of us here are!), the RailEurope site--for Italy--might be worth it.

I would say that the link shown in your message looks like a GREAT way to get a virus, not a train ticket!

Lola SAID so...LOL!!! EXCEPT...This new site sends you e-tickets for travel wholly within Italy; therefore, no $18 S&H fee like RE (although RE is having a limited Free Shipping sale right now...). Everything else I try to do gets me an error message or kicked back to the RE site...:-( I don't know if RE is offering more e-tickets than before - I saw reports that only some e-tickets were available; therefore, you had to fork over the $18 if you wanted to buy from them... The prices b/n the 3 are, for the most part in MY particular perusals, within a few dollars of each other; nothing I'd lose any sleep over. Whichever one cooperates with me the best is the one I'll go with. Granted, I've only checked ONE route; this was no scientific endeavor. I haven't looked at reservation-only prices, and I'm not going to. "Seat Reservations Only" is right on the first page, so unlike some other sites you don't have to go looking for it. Yea. So...it's in my Bookmarks; I'll be making several reservations for my trip this fall (2/3 in Italy)and I can commit to dates so I'm going after those MINI tickets!!! I'll let you know how things go!
