Trying to purchase a bus ticket from Madrid to Salamanca in late June. Am having trouble purchasing with a credit card as it advises the credit card has failed. I have called the credit card company and they say there are no restrictions on the card and it should work. Anyone have any experience trying to purchase bus tickets in Spain from the US?
We purchased our bus tickets from Madrid to Salamanca at the bus station about 5 minutes before the bus left the station. It was in March however and June may be a busier time but I'd be inclined to wait until you arrive.
Thanks. As info, I found out that they only accept credit cards that have been issued by a Spanish bank. So it looks like I'll be taking your advice.
JFK...were you using the Movelia site to purchase? I bought a couple on line about a year ago, and things went OK. If you still have problems, though, as the earlier poster said, simply purchase them in Madrid.
Hi JFK,
The bus to Salamanca leaves hourly so if you aren't able to get a seat on the bus that's leaving immediately you'll have your ticket for the next one!
JFK, I agree with the others. We used the bus to travel to Toledo and Segovia and found no problem getting one within the hour. If you miss one bus, another will arrive.
If you get a chance, take a look at www.maribelsguides.com. She had some great tips on going to cities outside Madrid.
My wife and I traveled all over southern Spain last year via bus. No real plans, just waking up and buying tickets. Never had any issue. Keep in mind that it seems that most of the time there is assigned seating as well. If you want to see the country side take the "Ruto", it's a lot longer but fun if you have a loose itinerary.
