This board often points out drawbacks to buying air tickets from third parties (such as difficulty changing anything). But American Airlines just sent me a bulk email limiting the ways to receive Mileage credits. I won't try to detail them here, but many third-party purchases, especially for non-business travel, will no longer deliver any Mileage credits.
So here’s the link to the information on American Airlines website. The gist of it is they’re going to have selected third-party brokers and if you don’t book via one of their approved methods, you won’t be getting mileage. If you book basic economy, you will not be getting mileage, unless you book directly with American. And those of you thinking this doesn’t impact you because you fly Delta, United, etc.. This is an industry of copycats
But honestly, the only reason I would not book direct when I was booking any plane ticket is if I was booking through a corporate travel portal and you’re required to do that.
I wouldn't book with a third party either, but this is another attempt by an airline (@Carol I agree that others are likely to follow) to make sure they have a stranglehold on our business.
Plus checked baggage fees are going up.
