Any experience or thoughts reguarding buying a scooter for a month tour of France?
I find it an interesting thought. But I am thinking for a tour of France you are really thinking of a motorcycle because the scooters may not get you up to speed.
There are several things to consider. In France, anything under 125cc doesn't require a motorcycle license. At 125cc you are required to have the appropriate license. Of course insurance is required etc.
You may want to consider renting - Auto Europe is doing this.
Research buying and SELLING a scooter in France. Some countries limit what you can do with a vehicle. In England, as an example, you can't bring one into the country and sell it; you must take it out.
Maybe renting one will be your best choice.
Dennis - buying and registering a vehicle if you are not a resident or EU citizen can be difficult. We are currently "borrowing" a scooter in Italy because it's extremely time-consuming. So research the local requirements as suggested!
Here, you must have residency which means if you are not a local you must have a current VISA, then a permisso siggorinio, then you establish residence, then you get a carta identica... then you can buy a car/bike! I know folks who have been here 18 months still working on these steps. Hopefully France is easier (I think ANY place is easier than Italy!!!)
I agree with Jona; check out the leasing options!
