If you plan to stay in Stockholm (Sweden) for more than 3 days it's advisable to buy a metro card (there are 3 and 7 days cards available) which gives unlimited access to all public transportation: U-bahn, buses, and ferries. Here comes a problem. The new vending machines have been recently installed in Stockholm. The machines excepts only credit cards, but also require a 4 digit code!? (a security measure which is bypassed everywhere but in using vending machines in U-bahns). Even though there are manned booths at metro stations you cannot fill a metro card at a booth. The person at a booth just gives you a blank metro card that you fill at a machine. Unless you have a Swedish friend who is willing to buy you a card, the advice to buy metro cards is useless.
