Ok - I know this question has been asked a million times. A couple of weeks ago, I saw the prices were around 950 or so. Now, the prices have gone up to about 1300 to 1400. My trip is in October. Should I wait to buy tix? What is your opinion?
Thanks to everyone - Hazel
Most people will probably tell you to buy when you see a price you can live with since gas prices are high, plane tickets will only go up, etc. However, I'd wait until at least the beginning of summer when airlines have their fall sales. It may not be much less, but I think you can definitely get less than $1,400. Set up an alert on farecompare.com and kayak.com and they'll e-mail you whenever the prices goes down.
Also, look into flying in to Frankfurt, and then catching a budget flight to Italy. Often Frankfurt or London are half the price of flying into Italy.
I would definatly wait ....I am going from NY JFK to Venice and coming back from Rome to JFK May 14-23 and I haven't gotten my tickets yet..........I have seen tickets for 998 up to 1500 at all different times and i've been looking since October. I use Kayak.Com they seem to have the most fares and airlines to look at.
Hi Hazel,
I would absolutely wait....I think you should be able to get something for 1/2 that price. You are traveling in low or shoulder season. I flew in 2006 from SFO to Rome back from Venice for $550 including taxes. I doubt you'll get that low with fuel what it is, but I have seen air for $700 or less. I would suggest you try a Travel Agent, they will give you a quote free and they can often get contracted or wholesale fares not open to the public sometimes much less than the airlines direct. Also if you are flexible some airlines really drop prices in November so you may want to push it out a little?
