Buy a train pass or buy tickets as we go? Best option?

Hello. My husband and I will be flying into Frankfurt on August 29th, taking train to Roethenberg where we will stay until Sept. 2nd. In Roethenberg area, we will spend the time in the local area sight seeing. Sept. 2nd we will take the train to Berchtesgaden. While there, we will stay in the local area, possibly going to Salzburg for a day. We will stay until Sept. 6th, when we will take the train to Munich for our flight. Our we better off buying a train pass or buying tickets as we go? I'm confused about the train passes and if we buy one, which one do we buy? Thanks in advance.

BTW, the town is called Rothenburg (ob der Tauber), not Roethenberg) Röthenberg). There are towns called Röthenberg, so using this misspelling might get you the wrong information. It might might help when looking for schedules. Most of the travel you indicate will be easy to do with regional passes, with Bayern tickets which are hop on/off passes for unlimited travel on regional trains in 2nd class throughout Bavaria. Länder tickets are much less expensive than a rail pass.
