Has anyone taken the bus from Rome to Sorrento or Sorrento to the Naples Airport? Did you need to buy tickets in advance and, if so, where did you buy them and how far in advance? And do you know where I can find a time table for the buses online?

Have not taken bus Rome to Sorrento but Tripadvisor has posts on this topic, the latest of which says the Curreri service was good. There's also a Marozzi service, but the site is in Italian and not that easy to use. Timetables below:
Have taken the Sorrento - Naples airport service many times. Pay the driver when you board. There was one occasion, going from Sorrento early morning, when it looked like we would not be able to get on but another bus was summoned and we all got to the airport on time. Have never had any problem getting on the bus for the airport to Sorrento run.
I took this bus last year, and all went so smoothly. In June I will be staying in Sorrento and flying to Prague at 9:00am. The first currer bus leaves Sorrento at 6:30 and arrives at Naples airport at 8:00am. I'm a worrier and afraid we won't make it in time for an international flight.
Is there any other way to get from Sorrento to Naples airport in the wee hours of the morning?

There is a bus shuttle from Sorrento to the Napoli airport. First bus departs at 6:30am and takes 90 minutes to get there. http://www.bus.it/curreri/inglese/E_index.html. Fare is 10Euro. If that won't get you there, you have two other choices. 1) Spend you last night closer to the airport and, 2) take private transportation. This will be a bit expensive.
Holly - There is an earlier Circumvesuviana train to Naples. At Naples you could either get a taxi to the airport or the airport shuttle bus (Alibus) costs 3 Euro, pay the driver. Have not done the bus service so cannot give firsthand information, suggest you look at Tripadvisor for this.
There is a fixed charge for the taxi between the station and airport but you need to agree it before you get in the taxi. The taxi driver is supposed to show you a card listing the fixed fares. Good luck!

Alternatively arrange a private transfer, it should cost about 80 Euros for two people from Sorrento to the airport. We have used De Martino, new cars and good drivers, but there are others who come recommended, again look at Tripadvisor. This is the solution we tend to use these days. A lot easier on the nerves!
