Buses in Bavaria

Bregenz is not in Bavaria. I know you can take a bus from Füssen to Sonthofen (I've been on it), and that is a scenic ride. I don't know about the rest of the way. I've always taken the train. Those buses are run by Regional Verkehr Allgäu, RVA. At least some of their schedules (Füssen to Oberstdorf) can be found on the website of Regional Verkehr Oberbayern (RVO, www.rvo-bus.de). Bus 9718 goes from Füssen to Oberstdorf and bus 9740 goes from Oberstdorf to Lindau. The bus from Füssen to Oberstdorf runs in the late afternoon and the bus from Oberstdorf to Lindau in the morning, so you'd have to spend the night in Oberstdorf. Unless you want to do this for the scenery, it's not very practical. There must be a bus from Lindau to Bregenz, but neither German nor Austrian Rail show it. It's only 12 minutes (€4,40) by train. There is a Stadtbus in Lindau (see map). One of the lines (#3) goes as far as the border, where you have to change to an Austrian bus ("Umsteigen nach Bregenz") to Bregenz. That bus does not originate at the Lindau Hbf; you'll have to take one of the other buses to get to it.
