What are the earliest the buses from Fussen, Germany leave for Hohenschwangau Castle? Will I be able to get there by 8 or 8:30 am? I will be staying the night before in Fussen - but I am leaving for Bacharach, Germany by train at 2pm, so I will not have much time.

I don't know the bus schedule, but Fuessen is close enough to the castles that you can consider other modes of transport, such as a taxi or rental bike.

You can find that information on the German Rail query page. Put in "Fuessen Bahnhof" and "Hohenschwangau" as from/to.
RVO (Regionalverkehr Oberbayern) has a website at www.rvo-bus.de but it's in German and a little difficult to navigate. It shows bus 9606 from Füssen to Garmisch-Partenkirchen leaving Füssen at 8:05, arriving at Hohenschwangau at 8:13.
There is also an RVA (Regionalverkehr Allgäu) bus, #78, leaving Füssen Bahnhof at 7:25, arriving Hohenschwangau at 7:32.
I believe those are the only two buses before 9:15.

According to the website, www.hohenschwangau.de, through Sept 30 the ticket center opens at 8:00 and the castle tours start at 9:00. Starting Oct 1, they will be on winter hours, 9:00 and 10:00.

Whether you can make your time schedule might depend on the number of people in the line at the castle. That's where things usually stall. And there is no way to tell how many there will be. When we arrived at the castle there were 70 people in line. But we had lots of time.

It might also help to make reservations in advance. You can do that online or through a number on the website.
You have to pick up your ticket an hour before your tour reservation, so if you made the reservation for around 9:30, you should be fine.
