Can anyone tell me if there is a good bus service running between Cologne and Bacharach. I know that there is the trian service, but we are on a limited days rail pass and I do not want to use a whole day of travel for a short journey. Thanks

In Germany, you are not likely to find "good" bus service parallel to good train service. But you still don't have to use a precious day of your railpass. If you purchase local (VRS) tickets from Koeln Hbf to Bonn Bhf (€6,60 pP), you can purchase and use a Rheinland-Pfalz-Ticket (€28 for 2-5 people) from there to Bacharach. . . . . . . ¶ All travel would be by regional trains after 9 AM.
