Hi, Everyone! I've been going to/living in Europe since the 1960s (Yeh, I'm even OLDER than the "old guy" RS). I have NEVER bought any kind of Eurotrain tickets! I'd buy either point-to point train tickets, long-distance coach tickets (about 1/2 the cost of British train tickets), Mitfahrzentrale "ride-alongs" in Germany and Holland, or I hitchhiked. But in 1996 I bought a "Eurobus" two-month pass for $325, a real deal, but sadly, Eurobus seems to be out of business now. Here's my question: comparing long-distance coaches (buses), which is a better deal for the money: Busabout or Eurolines? I know Eurolines is more expensive, but is the extra cost worth it, or is Busabout good enough? Hassles? As I remember, on Eurobus, the company said they couldn't guarantee a seat on a coach in July or August unless we made our reservations at least a week in advance. And it was true: in June there were almost always spare seats at each stop, but the coaches were always full in July and beginning of August. It did affect the "spontaneity" of travel, for sure! One other thing: the hostels/cheap hotels/campsites that were pick-up points for Eurobus were pretty good: cheap, clean and usually pretty close to the city centers. Do Eurolines and Busabout have similar setups? Thanks for any current info anyone can give me.
