Bus Transpotation from Paris to Bayeux

My husband and I will be travelling to France in September and after a few days in Paris want to continue on to Bayeux. We are seniors and are concerned about our abilities to handle luggage and transfers if we go by train. Are there any busses that go directly?

I'm sorry to have to tell you that there is no bus service of any kind between Paris and Bayeux. I hope you're planning to pack light: one carry-on bag and one day pack/person. If you do, lifting your luggage on and off trains will be much easier.

We are also planning to visit Bayeux in September and were intending to take the train directly there. However be aware that there is construction on that route and they would not sell us tickets the last time I looked. Since the indirect routing they suggested took a lot longer and had two train changes we decided to book a shuttle service directly from our hotel in Paris to our hotel in Bayeux. Yes, it is more expensive but there are four of us to share it cutting the cost per person and it will be much easier. You might want to look into that option. I doubt that we are traveling the same day or we could look into sharing the ride cutting the cost even more.

A month ago when I checked voyages-sncf.com, the timetables showed long, multiple-connection routes from Paris to Bayeux starting in mid-July. As of a moment ago the site shows booking for the regular two-hour routes up to and including 30 September. On 1 October the long, multiple connection routes appear. It's only a guess, but it looks to me like the start of the construction work has been postponed.

Thank you for your response. What about the availability of luggage carts for rent at the stations like those at airports? And where does one stash a suitcase on the train - is it all overhead? Are there any porters at all?

Thank you for the info about the possible construction and the related problems with train schedules - we hadn't heard anything about them. Will be trying to verify and will post any info we find - If you'd be kind enough to do the same we'd appreciate it. Thanks again.

Carry-on bags will fit in the rack above your seat. Larger bags go in the bins at the end of the car.

The short answer is there are no porters. That said, I think you'll be O.K. with your luggage. My hisband is Medicare-eligble and had a bad knee last year and we did fine on the trains. We always leave our luggage in the areas at each end of the train car and just grab it as we leave. We've found people to be very helpful in getting stuff off the train (I think they're trying to speed things along) and a couple of young fellows actually carried our luggage up the stairs last year. There are some stairs at Bayeux, but I think when you're coming from Paris you arrived on the station platform. On both our trips to Bayeux we have had to wait for taxis, but maybe someone will have a hint to cover that.

Small bags- nothing that gets stuck between aisles! Yes, there are single luggage racks above the seats and people do help (somewhat) if you struggle. I don't remember there being any luggage carts anywhere; I was traveling with young girls, and there were times it was a struggle (again, pack small and light!) You might want to price out the shuttle if cost isn't an option. What are you doing in Bayeux? I rented a car from Paris, because a car is awfully helpful once you are there.
