bus transport Prague to Nuremberg

We will be traveling from Prague to Nuremberg in May to start a river cruise and wondered about using bus as transport. Are we correct to select bus over train to get there? Thanks!

Due to history and geography, the rail links between Bavaria and Czech Republic are sparse, but in the last 10 years an excellent superhighway links Nuremberg and Prague. So as far as time, price, frequency of service, and comfort, bus is the way to go.

A reservation is necessary for the bus from Prague to Nürnberg and comes with the ticket. If you purchase the bus ticket well in advance, the fare can be as low as 19€ for one (38€ for two). If you wait until a few days before travel, the fare can be as high as 52,60/pers. The 19€ fares go on sale online from the Bahn website 92 days before the travel date. As the lowest fares sell out, the price goes up. There are also four 5 hr rail connections (at 5:15, 7:15, 13:15, and 17:15) from Prague to Nürnberg with one change in Schwandorf. If you purchase a Bayern-Ticket online from the Bahn (26€ for two people, no adv purchase necessary), you can buy Czech Rail tickets to Furth im Wald in Prague for about 9€/person (232 Czech Koruna), ~44€, total, for two. Depending on how far in advance you purchase, the rail could by less expensive.
