I have been into the web site listed in the guidebook, www.ooevv.at but cannot see how to get the info in English. Am trying to find times and fares fo the bus from Hallstatt to Salzburg on a Monday morning. Would appreciate any ideas.

First thing, that is the website for transportation in Oberösterreich (Upper Austria) which does not include Salzburg.
Try the Austrian Rail website at www.oebb.at. It can be switched to English.
I don't see an all bus connection. There is one connection using the train from Hallstatt (7:04) to Bad Ischl (7:32), and then a bus (7:45) to the Salzburg Hbf (9:20). The fare for this, 2nd Cl. is €4,50.

The rail and bus operations have been merged and it looks like the train is bettr than the bus.
