Bus or Train in England

I will be traveling from Cambridge to Bath and Bath to London in May/June. The National Express bus service is much less expensive that the train service. Is it reliable? Are there any major difficulties with it?

before you write off the train try buying Advance tickets for each segment rather than an Anytime for the full journey, after they are released as much as 90 days in advance. Timetables change in mid-May so not all Advance tickets are released yet.

National Express is usually fairly reliable but severe delays are probably more likely on road than rail. One advantage of taking the bus from Cambridge to Bath is that if you travel by rail you will need to change between two different stations in London - it's a direct run from Kings Cross to Paddington on the Circle Line, but if you have heavy luggage you might prefer a completely single-stage journey.
