Bus or train from Milan Airport to Centrale train station

We are a group of 7 going to be travelling next month and arriving in to Milan. We will need to get to Milano Centrale to catch a train to Genoa. Our flight arrives at 10:35 - would you recommend the express train or the bus? Also - for those that have done this - where is the best place to grab lunch before heading to Genoa? Should we leave our luggage in secure luggage at Milano Centrale or eat something in the station? With a larger group and being on a budget, I'm thinking pizza.

The bus is cheaper (3.50 vs 10 pp), more frequent, and takes the same time as the train to Centrale. If you take the train, you arrive on the Centrale platform, so it will be easier to get to platform for the train to Genoa. If you want to get moving, I'd grab some takeaway paninis and beverages and have lunch on the train to Genoa.

Sam is correct. The train probably would be more convenient since it arrives inside the station. The bus arrives on the SE corner of the station so it is probably a 100 yards to the front of the station, then inside the station and on to the platforms. There are several places to eat inside the station plus a small grocery store when you could buy items to eat on the train. With seven you can put your luggage in a pile and leave a couple of guard the luggage when the others get what you need. I haven't checked the schedule, but are you sure the train for Genoa leaves from Centrale?

For a 6.50 euro per person savings, I think we will try the bus. I must have been on a wrong website because I saw that it was 10 euros for the bus! And yes, I'm sure. Centrale to Genova Piazza Principe leaves every hour. Thanks for the food suggestion - good idea.

I just checked the Orioshuttle site. There is no service between Malpensa and Milano Centrale.

I used the "contact us" link on the Orioshuttle to ask about the MXP to Centrale and they referred me to Malpensa Shuttle, which is the 10 euros. Good to know.

Now I'm confused. So the bus actually is 10 euro? How much is the train? (Malpensa to Milano Centrale, that is).

According to the Malpensa Shuttle website, the bus is 10 euro. The train is 11 euros, but for me and my family of 4 it will be cheaper to take advantage of the family pass on the train - which is only 25 euros. Since the bus isn't that much cheaper and the train will drop us right off in the station, I think that's the route we will take. The other bus company deals with the Milano Bergamo airport for 3.50 - and I didn't specify which airport I was flying in to.

Carrie, Which airport and which Terminal are you arriving at? The best travel method to Milano Centrale will depend on the answers to those questions. If arriving at Malpensa / MXP, both the Malpensa Express (train) and Malpensa Shuttle (Bus) will take you to Milano Centrale. How long will you have at Milano Centrale? I wouldn't bother leaving your lugagge at the Deposito Bagagli as it will take time to deposit and retrieve it (and of course there will be a cost). As you have a group of seven, it shouldn't be hard for one or two of your group to watch it while you're eating or whatever. Note that the washrooms there are "pay" facilities. There are lots of food vendors at the station. You could buy a Panino and drink for everyone or if you'd rather stay with more "familiar" fast food, there's a Burger King at track level at one end of the station (it's not readily visible from the tracks, you'll have to go through the arch into the adjacent hallway. Happy travels!
