Hi! I will be traveling to London to Edinburgh and then back to London after two days in Edinburgh. I was wondering wether I should take a bus or train to get from London to Edinburgh, and then back to London. Thanks!!!
its an awful long journey. Unless you fly. I would not reccomend that long a bus trip. Just doesnt make sense There used to be an overnight train from London- left about 10 pm and arrived in Edinburgh about 7 am. Sleeper berths on the train. very convenient and efficient. i think there was also one coming from Edinburgh to London at similar times. We trained up and flew back. Train was well worth it, and we arrived relaxed. Edinburgh main train station convenient to main areas of Edinburgh
Bus is cheaper but train is so much faster and a good bargain if you buy tickets in advance. If at all possible... I'd go train.
Thanks so much for the help!
Kate, A few years ago we took an early train from London and got off in York for a few hours for a quick trip to the York cathedral, museum and a pub. We got back on a later train same day and arrived in York early evening. But we had a small bag with just a few items of clothes for our short trip to Edinburgh- due to no lockers at York station. Train was nice and quick. Amy
I suggest that you take the night train one way and a day train the other way. Booking well in advance can get you a Bargain Berth on the Caledonian Sleeper and a good discount fare on an East Coast day train. Book the Caledonian Sleeper at www.scotrail.co.uk/caledoniansleeper/index.html. Book a day train at www.eastcoast.co.uk.
