Is it possible to take a bus from Schiphol Airport to Bruges in a timely fashion (3-4 hours perhaps), without paying an arm and a leg? I know that private tour buses are available, but expensive; perhaps as much as 525,000 Euro. It seems like backtracking to head to Central Station to then head south to Bruges. Thanks.
From Schipol the fastest/cheapest way to get to Bruges is by train from the airport train station. Fares are about 35 Euros. Journey time is just under 4 hours with a change in Antwerp. No advance reservations are necessary.
Check schedules at the Belgian Rail site:

The major ICE link between Amsterdam and Brussels stops at Schiphol. You don't even have to backtrack to Amsterdam Centraal (which would be much easier anyway than piecing together a long string of bus connections). The easiest way to get to Bruge from Schiphol is to catch the ICE (there's one every hour) to Antwerp, and change trains there to Bruges.
I took the train from Bruges to Amsterdam last September and it worked well. The train did stop at Schiphol as the other posters said, so you can depart for Bruges from the airport station. Antwerp central station has multiple levels of tracks. If you must change from the bottom to the top level (I had to do the opposite), the elevator is quicker and easier than the escalators.
"No advance reservations are necessary" Or even possible on NMBS.
