Anyone have experience with this bus? It is one of the potential modes that DBahn offers from Prague to Nurnburg. Seems fine! But would love some first hand recent accounts. Thanks
Nevermind! I found some info from Frank posted just this past January. Sounds good. I will read up some more and let you know if i have another question.
Yeah, Frank said it was nice - better than a Greyhound. The people in 2nd class get to sit up above in the back, with a better view. The bus is the fastest way between the cities, and the least expensive if you purchase far enough in advance (Europa-Spezial fares start at €19. If you can't get the lower fares on the bus, there is also a regional train connection. The train takes about an hour longer. There are four connections/day between Nürnberg and Prague with the 2nd and 4th ones having a dedicated change of trains in Schwandorf. You can use a Bayern-Ticket (€21/€29) to the border and a Czech ticket for about €10/p (in Kc) from there to Prague.
Thanks! I think we will try for the bus as soon as our date opens. At
"t minus " 93 days.
Suz, I don't know where you are going to be leaving from in Germany. If it's Nürnberg, the bus or train from there would be best, but there are also four trains and many express buses from Munich to Prague. You can get the same Europa-Spezial fare on that bus, and exactly the same fare for the train using a Bayern-Ticket to the border and Czech Rail tickets from there.
Actually we are going the other direction...from prague to rothenburg on a wednesday morning in july. Two mornings later (friday) will be off to paris. A long day of travel. We plan to pick up the TGV Stuttgart. We will try to buy a ticket for the rothenburg to paris link on the first day we can buy the tgv ticket ...93 days before, right? We want to land in paris by friday early evening.
You realize that there is not a direct route and you will need to change trains at least twice before Stuttgart.
Yup. I asked the DH if he wanted one night in rothenberg and then one in stottgart, or 2 in rothenburg & he opted for 2 in rothenburg. So it will be an early start in rothenberg with either a bus or train with transfers on our way to stuttgart. I understand that the systems run well so all i will need to do is make sure my family runs well! ...and dont schedule the last train out for the day!
I live in Stuttgart and my older son and I did an Eastern Euro trip in Aug 2010 - first stop Praha. The shortest time/best price was to train to Nürnberg then the Dbahn bus to Praha. The bus was very nice, and even had an attendant selling snacks and drinks. We felt it was nicer than the train from Stutt to Nur. I'm not sure if it was the normal "layover" in Nürnberg, or if I planned an extended layover, but between train arrival and bus departure we had time to stroll into the old town for lunch (Nürnberger sausages - mmmm). The old town is just outside the train station, so is easy to do with limited time. If you plan a longer layover, you could do the impressive Nazi Documentation museum.
Brian - hmmmm. Nurnburg might be a nice place to stretch our legs after the bus ride from Praha. Thanks for the information. I will look at the time tables. Dont think i have had a nurnburg sausage before.
