We are planning a day trip to San Gimignano and from all the research I’ve done, the easiest way to get there seems to be: Train to Poggibonsi and then Bus to San Gimignano. I would like to hear from someone who has done it how it was…. The bus time tables look pretty lousy and I don’t particularly want to cab it – that seems to be a waste of money when there is bus! Any tips would be appreciated! Thanks
Well, we did exactly this, but it was years ago on our first trip to Europe.
I remember it as being quick and easy, and I don't remember having to wait for a bus, and we were not savvy enough back then to try to time train with bus. So maybe it was not a problem or maybe we were lucky.
As things may have changed, you probably want the benefit of other experiences.
I did Florence to San Gimignano by bus, with change in Poggibonsi. That also worked well, as the bus schedules of the 2 different companies are timed to coordinate. You can find the schedules online at http://www.sitabus.it/sita-toscana/Firenze%20-%20Siena.pdf.
