Has anyone taken a bus to London from Bath? Or, what is the approximate cost of a train? I just looked up a train fare from York to London, thinking I would drop off our rental car but...the fare was over 100 GBP. I think it will be cheaper to keep our car and drive back closer to London to drop it off. Thanks.
If you buy your rail ticket in advance, you can get a York-London ticket for about $42
From Bath to London: $26
You must buy in advance. Walk-up tickets on day of travel can be very expensive. (Those prices are in U.S. dollars assuming a 2 dollars per pound exchange rate.)
Try checking www.megabus.co.uk. They often have train tickets to Bath from £10. Also try www.nationalexpress.com for bus fares starting at around £8.
National Express (train) is showing a fare, York to London, for tomorrow, for $39 (leaves York 0822). Fares next week are as low as $20, depending on day/time. Checked my ticket from last April, London to York (Darlington), cost me $35 and our $CDN wasn't doing so hot then. I had booked online a week ahead and picked up ticket from machine at King's Cross. Farther ahead booked the better, walk up fares are deadly. Unless unusual circumstances, booking two weeks ahead, for the York/London route, should get you tickets for not much more than $30 (or less) if you're time flexible.
