Because of construction the day we want to travel from Amsterdam to Paris is not available via rail. Has anyone taken the Eurobus from Amsterdam to Paris? Thank you
Only KLM/Air France have direct flights between the cities.
Have you tried EasyJet? I think that might be a better option than trying Eurobus. Just a thought.
Have you tried alternative train routing? Where is the construction? Amsterdam - Paris is an 8h drive and the buses from Eurolines are cramped and packed. It is still possible to travel by train between two cities, though it will take longer and cost more. Which sector, exactly, is unavailable that day?
Ditto Andre There is almost always a way around. It would be very helpful to know which segment is closed.
Bob, To answer the question. Yes you can. The buses depart from Amstel Station, about 2 klicks, (km) south of Centraal Station. Around 6 or so departures a day depending on the day of the week. Takes about 7 and a half to 8 and a half hours. Leaves 6:00 am (the earliest), 22:00 the latest, (which gets you into Paris a little after 6:00 am the next day). 38 euros for an adult. But, they can have some crazy specials, as low as 11 euros if you are between the ages of 12 and 25 years old. If you are short on money, it's the way to go. It's very tedious, crowded, loud, tight spaced and if you get a bad seatmate next to you, can be horrific. That said, if you are travelling with someone to fill the seat next to you, want to really travel with the natives and locals, be very close to the ground, go ahead on. You also could get a group of cool people on board, and will learn a lot about the culture. Builds patience and character, especially if you are young.
Thanks for all the good information especially regarding the bus. I did find a work around by taking the train to Brussels then on to Paris. From what I could tell the direct train from Amsterdam to Paris was not operating on 9/29 or 9/30 due to constuction/maintenance and that was confirmed by an agent at Raileurope. Bob
Description of the disruption from the Thalys website: http://tinyurl.com/d2x4fxv It appears that the high-speed tracks between Rotterdam-Schipol Airport-Amsterdam Centraal will be closed that weekend. So the the Thalys to to/from Paris will only go as far as Rotterdam. I would Pickup the Thalys at Rotterdam instead of Brussels.
Also don't use Rail Europe, they are a rip-off. Instead book your journey via this site: http://www.nshispeed.nl/en
If Thalys are departing from Rotterdam, problem is solved easily taking a train to Rotterdam via the normal tracks. Takes longer (1h30-1h50 instead of 54min) but it is totally doable. Add € 15 for the extra cost of domestic tickets to Rotterdam. ============================ " want to really travel with the natives and locals" 6 daily buses on the route = 240 seats 10 daily Thalys trains = 5.200 seats Why do people think "locals and natives" living in one of the richest and most developed countries in the World would use cramped buses instead of fast trains? Why do people keep this vision that equals "locals" with "very poor and humble always using the slower and cheapest possible transportation"? More than 70% of Thalys passengers are "local and natives". They are just not the very poor types or cash-strapped types that some people seem to limit the definition of "local" to.
Andre L. Sorry, Exception noted. Lets make that more lively, animated, and colorful. Crashman
