got 50 euro bus fine for improper validation in florence. could not find place to pay it before leaving country. it now is a 90 euro fine. what happens if not paid?
That and traffic tickets -- nobody knows what happens if you don't pay. A big question is how much information do they have on you? An initial thought is that it might be very difficult for them to track you down but who knows? Just be more careful in the future.
Thanks, Jim. They have my Passport Number and birth state. Ruth
Just curious - how do you know the fine has gone up to 90 euros? Have you received a registered letter from them?
Ruth - the consensus around here is usually there is little they can do to collect. And that assessment is for traffic and ZTL tickets involving rental cars. I'm actually surprised they didn't make you pay the fine on the spot - that is standard.
Found out from a friend in Pisa that if not paid in 5 days it went from 50 to 90 Euro. thanks to all for the responses. Ruth
The answer is....nothing. They don't have legal standing to collect debts in this country, and they can't hire bill collectors.
