Bus? Air? Car Rental? Amsterdam, Hamburg, Berlin, Krakow

I am looking for suggestions on travel starting in Amsterdam in October. I hope to spend 5 days there then 2-3 days in Hamburg, 5 days in Berlin and 2-3 days in Krakow before returning to Germany to fly back to Canada on KLM. What transportation options are best?? Does anyone know of a reputable busline in Europe, similar to Greyhound in Canada and the US?

The train system is expansive and efficient. It would be my first choice.

Check train schedules at DB Bahn.

Dennis, not that I've done these connections but you might also consider flying between Berlin and Krakow because the trains take so long. Is your return flight home out of Berlin? Another option would be to spend the last few days in the town you will be departing out of so that you don't have difficulty getting back on time for your flight. To find domestic flight connections, I always check skyscanner.net. Hope this helps!

In 2006 we flew Easyjet from Berlin to Krakow and it was fine, except for a very early a.m. flight! Krakow is so interesting. Be sure to have breakfast in the main plaza.

Dennis,

We've booked a flight to Berlin from Krakow with Air Berlin.

If you're willing to commit to specific departure dates and times now, you can get a Europa-Spezial Niederlande Savings fare as low as 29 EUR for Amsterdam-Hamburg and a Sparpreis Savings fare as low as 29 EUR for Hamburg-Berlin. Book these discount fares on the German Rail site and print your own tickets.

If you're not under a time constraint, the Krakow-Berlin (day) is very interesting, geographically and historically. I took the Krakow-Berlin route (day) in July 2001, took ten hours as the train left Krakow and headed to Kattowitz, the former capital of Upper Silesia, it winds up in Wroclaw (Breslau), the capital of Silesia, after which it heads for the Oder. Very interesting as this train goes through the length of Upper and Lower Silesia, especially if you're interested in Prussian history and landscape.

All good suggestions. I've already booked my apartments in Amsterdam and Berlin with a couple of days for Hamburg in between, so I'll be returning to Germany or Amsterdam to fly back to Canada. I might even add a weekend in Prague before coming back, but it seems cheaper to leave from Germany or Netherlands so I might have to fly or train from Prague to connect with a KLM flight. Any ideas about car rental from Berlin to Krakow?
