Buonas, Switzerland to Zurich

I need to get from Buonas to Zurich on a Friday evening in order to catch a train to Nice on Saturday morning. I'm planning to stay in Zurich for the night. I have two questions I'm hoping folks can help me with. What is the best way to get to Zurich from Buonas (I won't have a rental car), and then where is a good, safe place to stay for the night in Zurich? I'm a single female traveler (until Saturday night when I meet up with a girlfriend in Nice). Any help would be appreciated!!

It's a bit tricky....
At Buonas take Bus 53 to Rotkreuz Station. From there take commuter train S1 to Zug. From Zug take the regular IC trains into Zurich. Total journey time is 1 hour. You can check schedules at the Swiss Rail site:

http://rail.ch

At the "from" box, type "Buonas, Neuhofstrasse".

Thank you so much for the information! It doesn't seem too bad, actually. I was considering taking a taxi since it's less than 20 miles, but I'll just do the bus/train option. Thanks again.

Nikki, what is your budget for a hotel? If you would like to walk to your hotel from the train station (something I would feel perfectly safe doing alone in Zürich)there are some options in the pedestrian zone of the Altstadt nearby, such as the Adler (160 CHF) or Hotel Altstadt (200 CHF but they often have weekend specials for 180).

A bit above beyond this area, on trafficked streets, are Hotel St. Josef (155 CHF) and Hotel Bristol (165 CHF). Those are all prices for a single room with bath, and may be 5 CHF off as I'm doing this from memory!

At the higher price end, closer to the station just off Bahnhofstrasse (the pricy shopping street, very nice) is the charming and traditional Kindli, at 260 CHF. More of a boutique hotel, in a high-end neighborhood.

We loved the Adler, but some fault it for the "cheesy" odors coming from the fondue restaurant. My son and his wife like the Altstadt, which is more modern. These are fairly close to one another on the opposite side of the river from the station, but safely walkable. You could dine happily nearby at any of several sidwalk restaurants, or go to our favorite, Mere Catherine.

We have also stayed at Bristol and it was clean and simply furnished, quite modern at least in the room we had. I know a lot of people on other travel boards who like the St. Josef. And the Kindli is very charming in a traditional Swiss way (but pricy).
