bumped off a flight that departs in six weeks

Hi just wondering if its common to get bumped off even before departure. We booked and fully paid, Sydney-Hong Kong, Hong Kong-Rome, in Sept 2012 with departure 15 April.
The travel agent rang thursday, to say our London via HK to Sydney returns are ok, and our Sydney HK flight is ok, but the HK Rome leg is now a 26 hour layover. I have checked the airline website and our original flight is still scheduled. I assume its a case of the airline overselling . Airline is Cathay Pacific

I would call the airline myself and ask them why..... This happened once with us but I called and they put me back on my original flight. I can understand if they no longer offer the flight in question but not one that is still scheduled

What did the TA say? I have never seen this UNLESS someone agreed to it. (see TA) There is something strange going on here and I would be demanding responses from the TA. The first thing that comes to mind is that while you paid them did they actually pay the airline. If not then the airfare may have risen and they rebooked you on a flight that was the price quoted No matter what this TA appears to be dropping the ball

This sort of thing just happened to me today with Delta. I called them and they switched it to a better flight for me with no change fee. Their policy is if they make the change and it makes more than a 90 minute difference, they will do their best to get you something you like better. The trick is to go on the website and see what your options are before you call so when you do talk to them you can ask for what you want. In my case, I was able to shorten my layover by 3 hours and change the day of departure without having to pay a change fee just because they altered my time by more than 90 minutes which they definately did with your flight. Give it a try, maybe Cathay Pacific has a similar policy.
