hi.. my friends and I decided to go to Venice and Milan after our business trip is over. However, we don't have any clue where to spend the night at that cities. We need suggestions of which budget hotel that is clean and safe with an english speaking staff and reasonable price for us, hopefully at down town area. Thank you for any of your suggestions.

I agree with Ken on the Albergo Doni in Venice...as for Milan, we stayed at the Hotel Star...mid priced hotel with lots of amenities, and right in the middle of all of the most important attractions. If you don't like the price the hotel charges, try hotels.com, expedia or one of the European consolidators.
When we look for budget accommodations we choose a hostel or zimmer. Do a google search for "Venice hostel" and "Milano hostel".
Or vary your search by asking for "Budget hotel"

In Venice you might have a look at This Hotel. It's very comfortable, has english-speaking staff (as I recall), provides a "continental breakfast" and is within easy walking distance of Piazza San Marco.
I can't offer suggestions for Milano, but you might check the Italy Guidebook or .
